Grilling food in the oven or barbecue can be a heart healthy way to cook a meal as it requires little or no oil. Immersing the meat overnight in a yogurt, lemon juice or vinegar based marinade with spices, ginger and garlic helps tenderize the meat while adding flavour to it. In addition, the marinade coats the food as it grills, keeping it moist, making it unnecessary to brush it with oil during grilling. There is also no need to add oil to the marinade, as it performs no real function there.

Sprout Salad

2 cups of sprouts
1 small red onion-finely chopped
1/4 cup of fresh cilantro finely chopped
1/4 cup of red, yellow or green bell pepper
1 small red tomato
Juice from 1 small green lime or 1/2 lemon
1/4 tsp sea salt
1/4 tsp ground red pepper or ground black pepper

Mix all ingredients in a large salad bowl or present on a plate with ingredients as a
garnish on the sprouts.

The look and feel of a burger with the tastes of home! If you wish, you can make koftas (meatballs) or seekh kababs on skewers from this mixture, eliminating the bread. You can also cook them stovetop in a frying or grill pan, sprayed with a little oil. If desired, serve the burgers open faced, without the top half of the bun, to cut down on carbs.
